Manufactured by Plastic Fabricators
Packed tower performances depend upon the effectiveness of the interactions between the gases and the liquids that happen within the column. However, when there are limitations in the passage of gases and liquids and distribution of the liquid becomes unequal, efficiency and operating costs start going up due to pressure losses.
PP Tellerette Packing is a product that has been specifically designed to improve this performance. The special design of its open loop shape results in the creation of more points of interaction between the gas and the liquid without sacrificing the high levels of free volume that are found in the whole of the packed bed. The result is efficient mass transfer and low-pressure drop. Plastic Fabricators offers PP Tellerette Packing by manufacturing it through injection moulding. It is specifically used in scrubbers, absorption columns, stripping towers, and pollution control systems, where there is a need for a high level of chemical resistance and efficient hydraulic performance. It comes in three different shapes (S, M, and L).
Tellerette Packing is a highly efficient random packing which is employed in packed towers to increase the efficiency of the mass transfer process between gas and liquid phases. Unlike traditional trays and structured packings, tens of thousands of individual elements of Tellerette Packing are used to fill the tower randomly creating an open packing bed.
In contrast to common cylindrical packing, the packing itself has a specific shape of circular spiral or toroidal helix with several flexible loops located around its center. The peculiar feature of such geometry is that the packing has great surface area and high voidage at the same time allowing the gas and liquid phases to pass through the packing easily.
During the movement down of the liquid phase, it constantly spreads and divides into droplets. Meanwhile, the gas phase moves through the packing without any resistance. It helps in continuous renewal of the liquid surface thus improving the processes of absorption, stripping, scrubbing and others.
The packing itself is made of polypropylene providing high chemical resistance and low weight making it perfect for chemical processing facilities, pollution control equipment, water treatment plants and so on.
All packed towers are supposed to perform one function very well—to maximize the gas-liquid contact and provide free passage to both phases within the column. The packing installed inside the tower will determine how well this will be done.
Plastic Fabricators produces PP Tellerette Packing that suits industries which require hydraulic efficiency, chemical resistance, and durability. Our packings have been produced by injection moulding to give dimensional stability and an open structure needed for efficient mass transfer. Our Tellerette Packing comes in S, M, and L types and engineers can choose the best suited for their particular requirements considering tower dimension, process and throughput required.
The design of our Tellerette Packing is different from the common designs which channel the liquid or limit gas flow in some ways.
When high gas throughput and effective distribution of liquids are required, PP Tellerette Tower Packing presents another design of random packing.
Tellerette Packing consists of a number of curved loops stacked radially in a spiral arrangement and provides a useful geometry to achieve a large effective surface area with an open structure.
The design encourages multidirectional flow leading to a decreased tendency to form channels in the packed bed and a more even distribution of liquid on the surface of the packing.
Tellerette Packing has a very good reputation of having excellent hydraulic performance and therefore is commonly used in scrubbers and absorption towers in pollution control systems when a low pressure drop and high capacity for treating gas throughput is of importance.
Large voids lead to a reduction in hydraulic resistance which results in high gas throughput.
PP Tellerette Packing is used in a wide range of industrial mass transfer applications where efficient gas-liquid contact is required.
This type of packing is used in many industrial mass transfer processes which require efficient gas-liquid contacting.
Some of its applications include:
Its high void fraction and liquid redistributor properties make it an excellent choice for industrial applications.
However, choosing the proper random packing goes beyond just the material itself; size, free gas space, surface area, and wall thickness affect the hydraulic capacity within the packed tower. Plastic Fabricators produces PP Pall Rings and PP Tellerette Tower Packing in various standard sizes. The following is the standard size table for industrial use.
| Nominal Size | Approx. Nos./Ft³ | Weight/Ft³ | Weight/Piece | Wall Thickness | Contact Surface Area | Free Gas Space |

The idea behind random tower packing is to maximize the interaction between the gas and liquid without affecting the flow.
Most of the time, regular packing methods provide sufficient surface area but end up with denser regions where the liquid takes the same route again and again. Gradually, it ends up with reduced efficiency due to un-even distribution.
PP Tellerette Packing solves this problem by using its unique spiral loop structure.
Unlike regular packings, which produce straight paths for flow, PP Tellerette Packing elements naturally have more than one flow path each. While moving downwards, the liquid spreads on the curved loops while gases move upwards in empty space.
Benefits of the Tellerette Design
All these factors combine to produce a packing where more of the available surface area is utilized.
Picking out the right packing geometry is but one aspect to ensure efficiency in tower design. Equally vital is the choice of packing material, particularly in an industrial atmosphere characterized by corrosion.
Polypropylene has become one of the popular choices as a packing material for random packing towers due to its good combination of toughness, chemical resistance, and price.
