FRP MOULDED GRATINGS
& FOR WALKWAYS & INDUSTRIAL FLOORING

Manufactured by Plastic Fabricators

Metal grating in a chemical plant has a short shelf life. It rusts, it needs repainting, and worse, it has scrap value which means it occasionally walks off site. FRP molded grating was built to solve exactly this set of problems..

We manufacture FRP molded gratings in standard and heavy-duty load ratings, for walkways, platforms, trench covers, and solar farm walkways. No corrosion, no conductivity, no repainting, and because it's a composite material, no scrap value for anyone to steal.

WHAT IS FRP MOLDED GRATING?

FRP molded grating is a load-bearing floor and walkway panel made from fibreglass and resin, moulded into an open mesh pattern instead of a solid sheet. It’s used wherever steel or GI grating would normally go walkways, platforms, trench covers, flooring — but without the corrosion, weight, or conductivity that comes with metal.

The grating is cast in one piece rather than assembled from welded bars, which is what gives it uniform strength across the whole panel and consistent slip resistance on the surface. Unlike pultruded grating, which is built from extruded profiles locked together, molded grating comes out of the mould as a single interlocked mesh — this is what gives it the higher load ratings needed for vehicle-rated flooring and heavy foot traffic areas.

In practical terms: if you’re standing on it in a chemical plant, walking across it on a cooling tower deck, or driving light equipment over it in a solar farm, molded grating is doing a job steel used to do — just without rusting, needing paint, or being worth stealing for scrap.

WHY PLANTS ARE SWITCHING TO FRP GRATING?

We’ve listed these before on spec sheets, but here’s what each one actually means on site:

Why FRP Over Steel or Aluminium Trays?

🧪
Corrosion Resistant Chemical plants, wastewater facilities, and coastal sites chew through steel grating fast. FRP doesn't react to moisture or chemical exposure, so it just stays put.
⚖️
Lightweight & Easy Installation A fraction of the weight of steel grating of the same size. Two people can carry and place a panel that would otherwise need a crane or a team of four — which is where most of the labour saving actually comes from.
🚫
No Scrap Value This one surprises people, but it matters: FRP is a non-recyclable composite, so it has zero resale value as scrap. Steel grating theft is a real, recurring cost on industrial sites. FRP simply removes the incentive.
🔥
Flame Retardant Properties With the right resin system and additives, FRP grating can be manufactured to flame-retardant specification for areas where that's a code requirement.
🔧
Maintenance-Free No rust, no corrosion, no repainting cycle. A pressure wash is usually all it needs.
☀️
UV Resistant UV stabilisers keep the colour and surface performance intact under long-term sun exposure — no chalking or fading like unstabilised plastics.
🦶
Anti-Slip Surface The concave, grit-coated top surface is built in during moulding, not applied as a coating afterward. That means the anti-slip texture doesn't wear off over time. This matters most in oily or wet working conditions.
Electrical & Thermal Insulation Non-conductive and low thermal conductivity, which makes it the safer option near live electrical equipment or high-temperature process areas.
💪
High Strength-to-Weight Ratio The glass fibre content gives it real mechanical strength and impact resistance despite being so much lighter than steel.
🔇
Noise Reduction The composite structure has some give to it, which noticeably cuts down the clatter of foot and vehicle traffic compared to metal grating.
🔄
Flexibility & Durability FRP grating can flex under load and return to shape afterward. Steel, once bent, stays bent.
🌦️
Weather & Temperature Resistant Holds its dimensions across temperature swings — no warping in heat, no brittleness in cold.
🎨
Self-Colored Material Colour pigment goes into the resin during moulding, not painted on afterward. There's no coating to chip, scratch off, or need touch-ups later. Custom colours are available on request.

TYPES OF FRP GRATING WE MANUFACTURE

We manufacture two main profile families for cable tray applications: channel type (solid bottom) trays for lighter cable loads and enclosed protection, and ladder type trays for heavier cable bundles that need ventilation and easier access. All profiles are pultruded in Safety Yellow (RAL 1003) as standard; other colours are available on request for volume orders. Standard length is 6 metres, with custom cutting available.

FRP Moulded Grating

DESCRIPTION

FRP Moulded Grating is manufactured as a single, interlocked panel, creating a strong structure that distributes loads across both directions. Its open-grid design provides drainage and ventilation while reducing overall weight, making it a reliable alternative to steel for walkways, platforms, flooring, and access areas exposed to moisture or corrosive conditions.

WHY THE MOULDED CONSTRUCTION MATTERS

Because the load-bearing bars are formed together as one continuous panel, loads are shared across the grid rather than concentrated in one direction. This bi-directional strength helps the grating tolerate regular foot traffic, equipment loads, and occasional impact while maintaining stability, even after field cutting.

FEATURES
  • Single-piece, interlocked moulded construction
  • Bi-directional load distribution
  • High strength-to-weight ratio
  • Corrosion, moisture, and chemical resistant
  • Slip-resistant walking surface
  • Open mesh supports drainage and ventilation
  • Non-conductive and low maintenance
  • Easy to cut and install on-site.
APPLICATIONS

Industrial walkways | Access platforms | Mezzanine flooring | Trench covers | Drainage areas | Chemical plants | Water treatment facilities | Marine environments | Utility and maintenance platforms

02
Grating Type

FRP Pultruded Grating

Built from pultruded FRP bars locked together in a grid, rather than moulded as one piece. Pultruded grating generally offers higher strength along the bar direction, which suits applications with a clear, consistent load path.
DESCRIPTION

FRP Pultruded Grating is assembled from continuous pultruded bearing bars connected by cross rods to form a rigid grid. Unlike moulded grating, its primary strength runs along the bearing-bar direction, making it ideal for applications with predictable loads and clearly defined support spans.

WHY THE PULTRUDED CONSTRUCTION MATTERS

Continuous glass reinforcement gives the bearing bars high longitudinal strength and stiffness. When installed with the bars spanning between supports, the grating can handle longer spans and heavier directional loads with controlled deflection. Correct bar orientation is essential for safe performance.

FEATURES
  • High strength and stiffness along the bearing-bar direction
  • Excellent strength-to-weight ratio
  • Suitable for longer, clearly supported spans
  • Corrosion, moisture, and chemical resistant
  • Slip-resistant walking surface
  • Open grid supports drainage and ventilation
  • Non-conductive and low maintenance
  • Lightweight for easier handling and installation
APPLICATIONS

Industrial walkways | Access platforms | Catwalks | Stair treads | Trench covers | Mezzanine flooring | Chemical processing plants | Water treatment facilities | Marine environments | Utility platforms

FRP Grating with Chequered Plate

A moulded grating panel finished with a chequered (diamond-pattern) plate surface instead of open mesh used where a closed, non-perforated walking surface is needed alongside FRP's other properties, such as inspection platforms or areas where dropped tools or small parts are a concern.
DESCRIPTION

FRP Grating with Chequered Plate combines a moulded FRP grating base with a solid, diamond-patterned top plate. It provides a closed, non-perforated walking surface while retaining the lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and non-conductive properties of FRP.

WHY THE CHEQUERED PLATE MATTERS

The solid top prevents tools, fasteners, liquids, and small components from falling through the grating. Its raised diamond pattern improves underfoot traction, while the moulded grating beneath provides structural support and distributes loads across the panel.

FEATURES
  • Closed, non-perforated walking surface
  • Raised chequered pattern for improved slip resistance
  • Moulded grating base for structural support
  • Helps prevent tools and small parts from falling through
  • Corrosion, moisture, and chemical resistant
  • Lightweight compared with metal flooring
  • Non-conductive and low maintenance
  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor installation
APPLICATIONS

Inspection platforms | Maintenance walkways | Mezzanine flooring | Equipment platforms | Work areas above machinery | Electrical facilities | Chemical processing plants | Water treatment facilities | Marine environments | Areas handling tools or small components

WHY THICKER GRATING CARRIES MORE LOAD

This is a common question, so here’s the straightforward version: load capacity in FRP grating comes from two things panel thickness and rib thickness — not the mesh size, which stays constant at 38×38mm across every variant.

Going from 25mm to 30mm to 38mm panel thickness increases the section depth of the grating, which is what resists bending under load. The rib thickness (5/6mm to 5/7mm) adds to this by stiffening the individual mesh members. That’s why the 38mm heavy-duty variant can handle up to 2000kg while the 25mm standard variant tops out around 600kg  the mesh pattern is identical, but the structural depth carrying that load is very different.

This is also why the heavy-duty variant needs underlying support for vehicle movement  at that load range, the grating panel alone isn’t meant to span unsupported the same way a lighter foot-traffic panel would.
