PP CROFFLES

Manufactured by Plastic Fabricators

Open plating tanks lose more than liquid. Heat escapes from the surface, water and process fluids evaporate, and chemical fumes move into the working area. PP croffles create a floating layer across the tank surface. The polypropylene balls sit on top of the liquid and reduce the open area exposed to the air. That helps retain heat, limit evaporation, and contain chemical vapours around the tank.

They are used in electroplating shops and surface treatment facilities where tanks operate with chemicals and heated process liquids. Plastic Fabricators supplies PP croffles for industrial tank applications and can discuss the quantity required for your tank size and process.

TECHNICAL DATA

WHAT ARE PP CROFFLES?

PP croffles are hollow polypropylene balls used as a floating cover on the surface of chemical and plating tanks.
When placed across the liquid, the balls form a loose floating layer. This layer reduces the amount of liquid directly exposed to the surrounding air. As a result, less heat escapes, evaporation can be reduced, and chemical fumes are less likely to spread freely into the work area.
PP croffles are made from polypropylene, a material selected for its low weight and resistance to many chemicals used in electroplating and surface treatment. The balls move with the liquid and can be removed when the tank needs inspection, cleaning, or maintenance.
They are not a replacement for local exhaust ventilation, tank covers, or the plant’s safety controls. They are one practical way to reduce the open surface of a process tank and improve control around the tank area.

WHY USE PP CROFFLES?

PP croffles are a small addition to a process tank, but they address several common problems in electroplating and surface treatment work.

Why Industries Use PP Croffles?

They Can Save Energy In case less heat is lost in the process, then the heating process may not use much energy to achieve the process temperature. Actual savings depend on the tank and operating conditions.
💧
They Help Reduce Fluid Evaporation The balls limit the exposed liquid area and can reduce evaporation from the tank surface.
🧪
They Help Contain Chemical Fumes PP croffles reduce the open surface from which fumes can rise. They should be used along with the correct exhaust and ventilation system.
🛡️
They Resist Many Plating Chemicals Polypropylene is used because it offers resistance to many chemicals found in electroplating and surface treatment operations. Compatibility must be checked for the actual bath.
⚖️
They Are Light and Easy to Handle The balls can be added to or removed from the tank without installing a heavy permanent cover.
🏭
They Suit Existing Open Tanks PP croffles can be considered where a full tank cover is impractical or where operators need regular access to the bath.
🔥
They Work at Elevated Temperatures The product information published by Plastic Fabricators states a temperature rating up to 110°C. The actual application should be reviewed before use.
🌬️
They Can Help Improve the Work Area Reducing the exposed liquid surface may help limit vapour movement around the tank, although it does not remove the need for proper exhaust, PPE, and chemical controls.
💰
They Are a Cost-Conscious Tank Improvement A floating layer can be added without redesigning the complete tank structure. The quantity required depends on the tank’s surface area and the desired coverage.

TYPES OF PP Croffles

The exact suitability depends on the chemical bath, temperature, tank dimensions, ventilation arrangement, and process method.

COMMON APPLICATIONS

PP CROFFLES FOR ELECTROPLATING TANKS & SURFACE TREATMENT

DESCRIPTION

PP Croffles are floating polypropylene balls designed to cover the surface of plating tanks and other process tanks containing hot or corrosive chemicals. Manufactured from chemical-resistant polypropylene, they are lightweight, durable, and suitable for continuous operating temperatures up to 110°C.

WHY PP CROFFLES MATTER?

PP Croffles create a floating barrier across the liquid surface, reducing the exposed area from which heat, vapours, and evaporation can occur. This helps improve process efficiency, conserves energy, and contributes to a cleaner working environment. Unlike rigid tank covers, they can be easily added or removed without affecting operator access, making them a practical solution for existing electroplating and chemical process tanks.

FEATURES
  • Helps reduce heat loss from process tanks
  • Minimises liquid evaporation
  • Assists in reducing chemical fume release
  • Resistant to many electroplating and surface treatment chemicals
  • Lightweight and easy to install or remove
  • Suitable for existing open tanks without structural modifications
  • Continuous working temperature up to 110°C
  • Improves process efficiency with floating surface coverage
  • Low-maintenance and long service life
  • Cost-effective alternative to permanent tank covers

  • Metal Finishing Plants
  • Anodising Areas
  • Pickling and Chemical Treatment Lines
  • Acid and Alkali Process Tanks
  • Rinse Tank Areas

APPLICATIONS BY INDUSTRY

WHAT AMOUNT OF PP CROFFLES ARE NEEDED FOR A TANK?

The amount needed mainly depends on the tank surface area and the extent of the surface coverage needed.

  • When ordering a quote, give us:
  • Length of the inside of the tank
  • Width of the inside of the tank
  • Standard height of the liquid
  • Shape of the tank and any obstructions in it
  • Surface coverage area required
  • Kind of liquid used
  • Operating temperature

A tank with a simple rectangular surface is easier to estimate than a tank with heating coils, pipes, anodes, baskets, or other items crossing the liquid surface.

Plastic Fabricators can review the tank details and help work out a practical quantity. Do not estimate only from the tank’s outside dimensions because the usable surface area may be different.

CUSTOM FABRICATION SERVICES

More Than Just Standard Profiles, MATERIAL AND PERFORMANCE

Why Polypropylene Is Used for Croffles
  • Low density, allowing the balls to float
  • Resistance to rust and corrosion
  • Resistance to many acids and alkalis
  • Low moisture absorption
  • Light weight for handling and removal
  • Suitability for industrial process areas
  • Temperature capability stated up to 110°C for this product

Chemical resistance is not the same for every substance. Concentration, temperature, exposure time, and impurities can change the result. The bath details should be shared before approving a PP croffle application.

When Is a Floating Cover Useful?
  • Operators need regular access to the process bath
  • The tank surface is open during normal production
  • A permanent cover is not practical
  • Heat loss from the bath is a concern
  • Fluid evaporation needs to be reduced
  • The tank contains a chemical solution that requires surface coverage
  • A lightweight and removable option is preferred
  • The process changes between batches

PP croffles do not replace a fixed enclosure where the process requires complete containment. They also do not replace ventilation or other safety equipment. The right option depends on the tank and the process risk.
