Manufactured by Plastic Fabricators
Metal grating in a chemical plant has a short shelf life. It rusts, it needs repainting, and worse, it has scrap value which means it occasionally walks off site. FRP moulded grating was built to solve exactly this set of problems. We manufacture FRP moulded gratings in standard and heavy-duty load ratings, for walkways, platforms, trench covers, and solar farm walkways. No corrosion, no conductivity, no repainting, and because it's a composite material, no scrap value for anyone to steal.
They are used in electroplating shops and surface treatment facilities where tanks operate with chemicals and heated process liquids. Plastic Fabricators supplies PP croffles for industrial tank applications and can discuss the quantity required for your tank size and process.
FRP moulded grating is a load-bearing floor and walkway panel made from fibreglass and resin, moulded into an open mesh pattern instead of a solid sheet. It’s used wherever steel or GI grating would normally go walkways, platforms, trench covers, flooring but without the corrosion, weight, or conductivity that comes with metal.
The grating is cast in one piece rather than assembled from welded bars, which is what gives it uniform strength across the whole panel and consistent slip resistance on the surface. Unlike pultruded grating, which is built from extruded profiles locked together, moulded grating comes out of the mould as a single interlocked mesh. This is what gives it the higher load ratings needed for vehicle-rated flooring and heavy foot traffic areas.
In practical terms: if you’re standing on it in a chemical plant, walking across it on a cooling tower deck, or driving light equipment over it in a solar farm, moulded grating is doing a job steel used to do just without rusting, needing paint, or being worth stealing for scrap.
When you work with chemicals, you need tools you can count on. That’s why we make our scrapers, spatulas, and scoops from virgin polypropylene – they’re built to handle tough jobs without letting you down.
Cast as a single interlocked panel for maximum load-bearing strength. This is the standard choice for walkways, platforms, and flooring that needs to handle regular foot traffic or equipment loads.
Built from pultruded FRP bars locked together in a grid, rather than moulded as one piece. Pultruded grating generally offers higher strength along the bar direction, which suits applications with a clear, consistent load path.
A moulded grating panel finished with a chequered (diamond-pattern) plate surface instead of open mesh used where a closed, non-perforated walking surface is needed alongside FRP’s other properties, such as inspection platforms or areas where dropped tools or small parts are a concern.
FRP Moulded Gratings are widely used in:
Universal grating size across all standard variants is 1220mm × 3660mm, with mesh box size of 38mm × 38mm. Load capacity is determined by panel thickness and rib thickness.
| Variant | Size | Mesh | Rib Thickness | Load Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (A) | 1220×3660×25mm | 38×38mm | 5/6mm | 500-600 kg |
| Medium Duty (B) | 1220×3660×30mm | 38×38mm | 5/6mm | 600-700 kg |
| Heavy Duty (C) | 1220×3660×38mm | 38×38mm | 5/7mm | 1000-2000 kg (with support; light vehicle movement only) |
Note: The heavy-duty 38mm variant is rated for vehicle movement only when installed with proper structural support underneath. It is not intended as a standalone vehicle-rated deck without support framing.
Narrower panel widths designed specifically for solar farm walkways and maintenance access:
| Variant | Size | Mesh Box | Rib Thickness | Load Bearing Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Solar Walkway (A) | 310×3660×25mm | 38×38mm | 5/6mm | 500 kg/m² |
| Solar Walkway (B) | 385×3660×25mm | 38×38mm | 5/6mm | 500 kg/m² |
| Solar Walkway (C) | 423×3660×25mm | 38×38mm | 5/6mm | 500 kg/m² |
| Resin Available | General Purpose, Vinyl Ester, Epoxy, Bisphenol | |||
Note: The heavy-duty 38mm variant is rated for vehicle movement only when installed with proper structural support underneath. It is not intended as a standalone vehicle-rated deck without support framing.
This is a common question, so here’s the straightforward version: load capacity in FRP grating comes from two things: panel thickness and rib thickness, not the mesh size, which stays constant at 38×38mm across every variant.
Going from 25mm to 30mm to 38mm panel thickness increases the section depth of the grating, which is what resists bending under load. The rib thickness (5/6mm to 5/7mm) adds to this by stiffening the individual mesh members. That’s why the 38mm heavy-duty variant can handle up to 2000kg while the 25mm standard variant tops out around 600kg the mesh pattern is identical, but the structural depth carrying that load is very different.
This is also why the heavy-duty variant needs underlying support for vehicle movement at that load range, the grating panel alone isn’t meant to span unsupported the same way a lighter foot-traffic panel would.
